Wairau

Our vineyards are higher up in the Wairau Valley located in alluvial soils of the world revere bed.

Rapaura

Here you find the stoniest soils, with large rounded river stones, called greywacke, and a thin top layer of sandy loam.

Lower Wairau

Farther down the river valley the soils become more loamy and as a consequence have higher water retention.

Waihopai

These southern valleys are glacial with more clay soils and wind-blown loess.

Awatere

In the Awatere valley the vineyards are seated on large river terraces with gravel, silt-loam and wind-blown loess soils.
